Sharp announces a new Android smartphone in Japan

Although practically unknown in the US, Sharp has consistently released smartphones for the Japanese market and here’s a new addition to the said line-up. Sharp has announced the new Sharp Aquos IS14SH which is fitted with a 3.7 inch touchscreen display. It features a slide-out numeric keypad while storage comes in the form of a 4 GB built-in memory.

No details on pricing, release date or worldwide availability (if there’s any) has been given announced by Sharp but we will update you as soon as possible.

Verizon Wireless LTE outages reported

It seems like the attention has been turned away from AT&T as Verizon Wireless users have reported a number of outages with it’s recently launched 4G LTE network. The instances were reported through Verizon’s forums and Twitter with the latest report saying that Verizon is again suffering from 4G and possibly even 3G outage.

Affected areas include New York, Illinois, California, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and New Jersey.

Verizon has already issued an official statement saying that their 4G LTE network will return to normal this morning after their engineers have already sorted out the cause of the problem.

Verizon announces the price of Galaxy Nexus

Verizon has finally announced the price tag of the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and from the announcement, the phone will be priced at $229.99 with a two-year contract from the network. The price sounds about right for a high-end device as they’ve recently released the HTC Rezound and Droid Razr for $300 on a two-year contract.

As a reminder, the Galaxy Nexus features a 4.65 inch touchscreen display and will be the first to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.

If you’re one of the many mobile enthusiasts that’s been waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ arrival in the United States and you want it now, then you might wanna check out Expansys’ offer for the device.

Their version comes unlocked but like any other unlocked devices, it would cost you a lot more to get the phone so I’m not sure if it’s worth it if you live in the United States. The online retail store is asking $749.99 for the phone straight up so you might wanna think about it before buying.

T-Mobile announces the HTC Radar

T-Mobile has today announced another smartphone that will be joining their line-up soon named the HTC Radar. The HTC Radar will be T-Mobile’s one of the first smartphones to bring Windows Phone Mango to the network.

The phone is powered by a 1 GHz processor and sports a 3.8 inch display with a pixel resolution of 480 x 800. It will run on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network giving its users some high speed internet action.

Unfortunately, no details on an exact release date and pricing have been confirmed as of yet but we will update you as soon as word about it comes out.

The HTC Vigor hits the FCC

A month after the HTC Vigor was announced, the phone has been reported to have finally reached the FCC for radio testing. And you know what this means folks, we can expect to see the HTC Vigor on the Verizon Wireless network very soon.

As a reminder, the HTC Vigor will be running on Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network. It sports a 4.3 inch HD display with a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720 and will be running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread out of the box.

It will be powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor which makes it one of the most powerful phones in the market. An 8 megapixel camera is fitted on its back for HD video and photo capture.

Visidon app for Android, brings security features through facial recognition

If you feel the need to add extra security measures for your Android device then you might want to consider looking at the the new Visidon Applock. The app features a new way of protecting your phone by giving it cool facial recognition features.

You need only to snap a photo of your face using your front facing camera and select the apps you want to protect. The apps you pick will require facial recognition once someone opens it again.

Given that I haven’t tried it myself, it sure is a question of how reliable the app’s technology is. Another concern is whether the technology is secure or not but then again, I don’t see how you need to go as far as needing a “virtual vault” for your Android smartphone.

The BlackBerry Playbook sells over 250,000 units in 30 days

The BlackBerry Playbook which was launched just a month ago is off to a good start as reports state that the device had sold over a quarter of a million units in 30 days. Of course, its still nothing compared to the iPad 2’s sales, but it is still a good figure considering it’s Research in Motion’s first try at a new industry.

Analysts predict that the PlayBook will be able to sell 250,00 for its first quarter of release.

It is definitely a good figure compared to Motorola Xoom’s 250,000 for a full quarter.

Unleashed Contract-Free handsets arrive at Best Buy

The kind of stuff you would previously see on networks like Boost Mobile, is now coming to the Verizon Wireless community in the form of the Unleashed. Unleashed phones are low-end phones that will run on Verizon’s network contract free and will be offered a $50 a month unlimted text, call and mobile web, not bad.

Unleashed phones include the LG Accolade and the Pantech Caper both priced at $79.99 and the LG Cosmos priced a mere $39.99, great for the budget conscious.

No official word from Verizon Wireless has been released yet but judging from this leaked photo, Verizon is just a few clicks short of confirming the news to the public.
